Propaganda Reappropriated
I’ve always been obsessed with communist propaganda from the mid-twentieth century because of their ability to diffuse messages of collective strength. I wanted to use these tactics to recontextualize U.S. propaganda and what it means to love people more than a nation state. I used symbols, messages, and colors, typically associated with strength and patriotism, to affirm messages of collectivity and love.
Rather than advocating for a particular party, I wanted the message to be about finding honor and pride in fighting for each other. I used bold, idealist geometry to draw attention to symbols and messages of togetherness. I also arranged the typography similarly to classic hand-painted grocery signs in an attempt to take back what American idealism means today.
